Happy Holidays, Newgrounds!

Hey everyone,

As 2024 winds down, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what’s been a year of change, growth, and creativity. It’s been semi-stressful at times, but also full of learning experiences and milestones. While I’m not comfortable sharing everything that’s happened because my newsposts get archived, I’d like to highlight what feels most relevant to my journey this year. Almost everything from my 2024 bucket list was checked off. Except for draw more. But I cleared out my gallery for that reason. I wanted to give myself more room for new stuff.

Pico Day 2024 and Friends

Earlier this year, I attended my first Newgrounds meetup in New Jersey during Pico Day. It was an unforgettable experience—I met so many kind, creative people and grew closer to friends I already had. For anyone curious, I wrote a detailed post about it earlier in the year, so feel free to check that out for the full recap.

As much as I enjoyed it, I’m not sure if I’ll attend another meetup. The one organized by @BrandyBuizel was special, and I doubt anything could top it. Plus, I’ve already met the people I wanted to connect with most. Moving forward, I’d rather invest in one-on-one time with friends than large group events.

Growth, Change, and Letting Go

This year, I lost some friends and kept others—such is life. I’ve adopted a “go with the flow” mindset that’s helped me stay grounded. While I’ve had my moments, I feel like I’m ending the year as a calmer, more balanced person. I’ve grown up a lot. Maybe I’ve become a little bitter in the process (or maybe its just the End of the Year stress), but I’m hopeful that will fade as life becomes less chaotic and I continue meeting better people.

Rebranding

A big part of 2024 was rebranding and redefining myself. I stepped away from old personas and projects that no longer felt like “me” to focus on creating something more authentic. The past is behind me, but that doesn’t mean I’m done—it’s just the start of something new... eventually.

Game Development

This year, I continued to make Flash Games, which has been both challenging and rewarding. Winning 3rd place in Flash Forward was a huge confidence boost, and the prize money helped more than I can express.

While there were plenty of failed projects along the way, Tracie’s Pursuit was a standout. I created it just before personal life got hectic, and it reminded me how much I love making games. Flash may be old-school, but it still has my heart. Someday, when life is a little quieter, I’ll take a break and create a game I can really stick with.

Sewing

Outside of Newgrounds, I started learning how to sew this year. It began as prep for a seamstress job I didn’t end up taking (my current job pays better), but I fell in love with the craft. I’ve made stuffed pandas, makeup bags, and other pieces. Sewing has been incredibly fulfilling, and I’m excited to keep exploring this outlet.

Reflections and Looking Ahead

2024 has been a year of balancing personal growth with projects (as is every year). From sketching and coding to sewing late into the night, every challenge has taught me something new.

Thank you to everyone who’s supported me along the way. Newgrounds has always been a special place for creators, and I’m grateful to share my journey with all of you.
